Process and Capabilities

From Concept to Production

Combining optical design, mechanical/electrical engineering, and in-house advanced manufacturing to deliver turnkey diode laser assemblies built to your exact specifications.

Design & Development

Our typical development process involves customers engaging directly with DLC’s experienced engineers across optical, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing disciplines. Early collaboration allows both parties to fully understand critical specifications, identify integration risks and performance limitations before they become costly issues. Our design process prioritizes manufacturability, repeatability, and system-level optimization. This approach reduces development risk and keeps programs moving forward with confidence. We then refine laser designs into plug-and-play assemblies, aligned, calibrated, and ready to integrate into your system without added burden.

Custom optical, mechanical, software, firmware, environmental and electronic engineering by in-house experts with the tools to validate real-world performance.

Development at DLC bridges the gap between design and production. We focus on design for manufacturing (DFM), ensuring laser assemblies integrate seamlessly into your system. Alignment and calibration are completed in-house so your team doesn’t need to solve these challenges downstream. The result is a laser subsystem that installs easily, performs reliably, and scales efficiently into production.

Collaboration – You collaborate directly with DLC’s in-house engineering team, eliminating layers of management and unnecessary handoffs. This accelerates communication, improves technical clarity, and leads to better design decisions.

Integration – Laser assemblies are developed to drop directly into your system without additional alignment or calibration. This reduces integration effort and shortens time to deployment.

DFM – Our Design for Manufacturing focus guides how parts will be built, aligned, tested, and produced at scale. This prevents redesigns and ensures consistency from prototype through production.

Efficiency – While pre-calibration may add upfront effort, it significantly reduces downstream costs. Faster integration, fewer failures, and reduced engineering time lower overall program risk and expense.

Prototypes

Rapid prototyping at DLC helps engineering teams move from assumptions to informed decisions. Early prototypes are not final designs, but critical tools for testing concepts, evaluating options, and refining requirements. By getting physical samples into your hands quickly, teams gain insight that simulations alone cannot provide. This iterative approach reduces uncertainty and leads to stronger final designs.

Early physical prototypes allow teams to see, test, and evaluate real-world performance before committing to final designs.

Rapid – In-house CNC milling and turning enable rapid turnaround without external dependencies or long lead times.

Tested – Early diagnostics and bench testing identify issues before they become delays. Mutually accepted metrologies ensure specifications are understood and satisfied.

Iteration – DLC often supplies multiple prototype iterations, each designed to answer specific questions and guide the next step forward.

Validation – Early physical prototypes allow teams to evaluate real-world performance before committing to final designs.

Advanced Manufacturing

Manufacturing technologies and standards at DLC ensure design intent becomes production reality. As both designer and manufacturer, we eliminate the disconnects that often occur when production is outsourced. Our processes focus on consistency, repeatability, and quality across every unit. This integrated model supports reliable scale from low volume through full production.

To achieve the highest manufacturing standards across a wide variety of custom products, Diode Laser Concepts designs and installs specialized optical alignment equipment within our manufacturing facilities.

Dedication – Manufacturing is integrated directly with engineering, eliminating handoffs and ensuring every design is built exactly as intended.

Custom Optical Alignment Platforms – Product-specific advanced manufacturing stations utilizing tailored optical metrology and automation for real-time analysis of optical and electro-optic performance.

Repeatability and Accuracy – Employing various optical sensor types in the beam path within regions of interest specific to each product. Real-time performance metrics analysis, minimizing defects and increasing yield.

Quality Control – Controlled processes and in-house tooling ensure each unit meets the same performance and quality standards. U.S.-based manufacturing provides control and IP protection. NIST-traceable measurement standards for compliance and reliability
